    Job Summary:
    Promotes quality patient care through a program which investigation and problem solving in relation to the surveillance, Prevention and Control of Infection; is responsible for epidemiological and infectious disease surveillance, internal and external consultation, implementation andevaluation of Infection Control practices, and the development of related P&Ps; educates employees on orientation, inservice training, informal discussions; supervises all cleaning activities on patient care areas; is responsible for the acquisition, interpretation, distribution and implementation of regulatory and public health authority guidelines related to Infection Control.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Maintains an effective surveillance program to reduce nosocomial infections of target indicators and monitors reportable diseases.
    Provides orientation and continuing inservice education to all personnel and volunteers regarding the elements of the Infection Control program and the employees responsibilities in the program.
    Develops and presents hospital-wide education programs based on identified need or regulatory standards. Participates in patient/resident disease specific education as appropriate.
    Communicates surveillance data into a meaningful reporting system that is shared with appropriate personnel.
    Maintains an open dialogue with hospital personnel on relevant Infection Control issues. Plans for the development, implementation and review of hospital-wide Infection Control policies and procedures. Is readily available to all departments for problem solving/data collection. Provides, on request, information and guidance on Infection Control issues.
    Assumes responsibility for professional growth by defining annual goals/objectives, participation in professional organizations, and review of Infection Control literature. Improves skills by attendance at educational offerings. Maintains or prepares for certification in the speciality of Infection Control.

    Requirements:

    Nursing school and BA/BS Degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
    Current PA RN license in good standing.
    Certification in Infection Control (CIC) desired or active
    participation in certification.
    Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively across department boundaries.
    Minimum of 5 years Clinical Nursing experience.
    Experience in Adult Education preferred.
    Knowledge of epidemilogy, communicable disease transmission, isolation practices and basic statistics.
    Computer skills.
    Basic training course in Infection Control.
    Current CPR certification.
