Please come to the NSA meeting at 12:15 pm in LIB 244 in to hear a Be The Match presentation. Be The Match finds lifesaving matches for patients with leukemia and other blood cancers. It takes only 5-10 minutes to register by rubbing two cotton swabs in the inside of your mouth. If there is a match, the transplant process is usually similar to donating blood. The healthy donor and patient share the same ancestry. Unfortunately 20% of all leukemia patients who are Hispanic, 28% of Asians & 34% of African Americans do not survive because not enough ethnically diverse people have signed up & matches cannot be found. Be The Match pays all expenses for the healthy donor and encourages those interested to sign up for the opportunity to be a lifesaver & cure for a cancer patient who otherwise has little hope to recover.
